The Pretender by Foo Fighter

Keep you in the dark
You know they all pretend
Keep you in the dark
And so it all began

Send in your skeletons
Sing as their bones come marching in...again
They need you buried deep
The secrets that you keep are at the ready
Are you ready?
I'm finished making sense
Done pleading ignorance
That whole...defense

Spinning infinity, boy
The wheel is spinning me
It's never-ending, never-ending
Same old story

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays
You're the pretender
What if I say that I'll never surrender?

In time our soul untold
I'm just another soul for sale... oh, well
The page is out of print
We are not permanent
We're temporary, temporary
Same old story

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays
You're the pretender
What if I say that I'll never surrender?

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?

I'm the voice inside your head
You refuse to hear
I'm the face that you have to face
Mirrored in your stare
I'm what's left, I'm what's right
I'm the enemy
I'm the hand that will take you down
Bring you to your knees

So who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?

Keep you in the dark
You know they all pretend

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays
You're the pretender
What if I say that I'll never surrender?

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays
You're the pretender
What if I say that I'll never surrender?

What if I say I'm not like the others?
(Keep you in the dark)
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays
(You know they all... pretend)
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?

What if I say I'm not like the others?
(Keep you in the dark)
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays
(You know they all... pretend)
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?

So who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?

Foo Fighter

In the 13 years since Foo Fighters' self-titled debut, frontman Dave Grohl has quietly made the transition from celebrated drummer to arena rock heir apparent, taking part in collaborations with John Paul Jones, Brian May and rock'n'roll cheerleader Jack Black.

With sixth album "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace," Grohl and his fellow Foos again demonstrate reliability as hitmakers. The disc has already produced two modern rock No. 1s: "The Pretender" and "Long Road to Ruin." Third single "Let It Die" is more visceral and frenzied than either, suggesting a band wary of complacency. The song alternates between muted acoustic guitars and an explosive wall of sound, and culminates in screams worthy of Grohl's punk past. The track, which also features Pat Smear on guitar, is one of few safe bets for programmers in the topsy-turvy world of rock.

Hellowen

Helloween is the most famous of the German power metal bands in the United States. Early on, I think the "Hell" was the important part in the name of the band. Then I seems like it changed to "Hello" a later on. Anyway, enough rambling. Some history: Helloween has had three distinct historical periods. The "Classic" period covers their first three albums, Walls of Jericho and Keeper of the Seven Keys Parts I & II. Any metal fan worth his long hair has at least heard of Keeper of the Seven Keys. These two albums are the definitive example of German power metal. Kai Hansen was the driving force behind Helloween during those glory years. After Keeper Part II, he left and formed the band Gamma Ray.

In the second "Experimental" period, Helloween had a bunch of trouble with their record company, and was apparently wracked by intra-band turmoil. They came out with two more albums in this period, Pink Bubbles Go Ape and Chameleon, both without Kai. Many American metal fans don't even know that these two albums exist. Some who do know of them wish they didn't. (not me!) The third "Back to the Roots" era was marked when they came out with Master of the Rings with a new singer in '94. That, and the new album, Time of the Oath, are much more similar to the first period in speed and weight. Thankfully, they have both been released in the U.S.

Helloween/Walls of Jericho/Judas('85/'86)
I have the Noise re-release version of all this stuff. It starts with the five song Helloween EP, which is a lot better, at least more intense, then the first full length album, Walls of Jericho. "Starlight" is one of my favorites off this CD, with a wonderful intro. "How Many Tears," is pretty cool too. Kai Hansen does all the singing on this CD, and he sucks pretty bad. He sounds about a million times better on Gamma Ray's "Land of the Free." This is some balls-out speedy-thrashy metal, very unrefined. An must have for the die-hard Helloween fan.

Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I('87)
This, along with Part II, was the first CD of German metal that I ever bought. It's just barely a concept album, about the old stuggle of good vs. evil. Any concept of a concept was completly lost by Master of the Rings, however. This album is really short, but it's incredibly dense. There is a whole lot of music in these thirty-seven minutes. Over a third of the album is taken up by the thirteen minute song "Halloween." Just reading the solo list (Kai/Mike/Kai/Mike..a few words..Kai/Mike/Rhythm change/Mike/Kai/Mike/ Kai) is enough to get you excited. After hearing the final track, "Follow the Sign," it's nearly impossible not to pop Keeper Part II into the CD player and listen to that too. Michael Kiske, at 19 years old, shows his early potential as one of the best singers in metal. Kai Hansen and Michael Weikath do some of the best dual lead solos ever. Too bad these guys will never be together again.

Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II('88)
Helloween continues right where they left off after Part I. This album isn't quite as solid as Part I, but it's a lot longer, so there's at least 39 minutes of Part I quality music to be found on it. "Eagle Fly Free" is a classic, especially with the Kai/both/Markus/Mike/Ingo solo. "Dr. Stein" is the source of my IRC nick, even though I'm not crazy about the song itself. "Save Us" is my favorite Helloween song. Its frenetic pace and incredible solo overcome its Christian overtones. Luckily, Kai Hansen made this song again with Gamma Ray, except he called it "Man On a Mission." If Americans are going to recognize a Helloween song, it'll be "I Want Out." Classic anti-system metal lyrics and a catchy riff make this a perfect popular single. The "Halloween" on this album is twenty seconds longer, was written by Weikath instead of Kai, and is called "Keeper of the Seven Keys." Don't worry, it's just as good though. Too bad these guys couldn't have stuck together and turned out ten more albums like these. Oh well, I guess change is good too.

I Want Out-Live('89)
Even though it only has six tracks, this is the best live album I've ever heard. Recorded in the glory days of Helloween, I would have paid any amount of money to see this show. All of the songs they do are better than the album versions. Like the surprise start to "Future World," and the extra interlude on "How Many Tears." But what is really great about it is the interaction between the band onstage. Kiske is a great frontman (much better than Hansi on Blind Guardian's Tokyo Tales, if we're comparing German singers), and the rest of the band really likes to play with him and the crowd. I got this in a cutout bin for $2.00. There is a European version, called "Live in the U.K." and it has "Rise and Fall" as an added song. (no big deal)

The Best, the Rest, the Rare('91)
Released during Helloween's legal troubles, this album was meant to keep the money flowing in. It is a combination of greatest hits (kind of strange, for a band with three albums) and non-album material. The non-album songs are "Livin'Ain't No Crime," a damn catchy jig, "Victim of Fate," sung by Kiske (worse than the Kai version), "Savage," a great drum heavy song, and "Don't Run For Cover." The album would be worth it just for these four songs. The rest of the material has been remastered, and it does sound slightly better than the orignal recordings. Also a great album to get, if, like an idiot, you're only going to get one Helloween album.

Pink Bubbles Go Ape('92)
Well, Kai Hansen is gone. The major force behind Helloween is no longer a member. He was replaced by Roland Grapow, who, while not as prolific of a writer, is an accomplished guitarist in his own right. Not unexpectedly, the style on this album is quite a bit different from the previous works. Lyrically, the songs on this album are either about the environment, self esteem, or both. It's hard to pin down the difference from the Keepers albums, since many of the songs are still fast and heavy, with excellent singing and guitarwork. Perhaps it is the new producer, or simply the lack of Kai. Nonetheless, it is still a quality album. "Someone's Crying" is a deceptively fast song. We get to hear Markus (bass) take a hand at writing, on the totally messed up "I'm Doin' Fine Crazy Man," which is always a treat. The final song, "Your Turn," could almost be taken for a country tune, but it's a really good country tune. The band really doesn't like this album, but I think they're being a little hard on themselves.

Kids of the Century Single('92)
I got this single for the song "Shit and Lobster," which is included on the Japanese version of Pink Bubbles. It would be the best song if it was on the album. In addition to the title track, it's also got "Blue Suede Shoes," yes, an Elvis cover, (ok, actually a Carl Perkins cover) since Michael Kiske is such an Elvis freak. (furthur evidence: I Want Out-Live, Gamma Ray's "Time to Break Free")

Chameleon('93)
If the Keepers albums are German chocolate cake, and Pink Bubbles is potato salad, Chameleon is enchiladas, hot dogs, and egg foo yung all rolled together. Chameleon can't even be considered a metal album. It has a couple heavy songs, but also some very poppish songs, with influences from all areas of music. There are a lot of strings on this album, as well as keyboards, and even some horns. All of this does not in any way mean that this album is no good. If you have an open mind, you can recognize excellence in this album, but just don't expect it to be in the form of metal. "Windmill," a slow piano piece, is one of my mom's favorite songs. If played on American radio, I believe that "In the Night" could achieve huge chart success. The final track, "Longing," an acoustic/orchestral song, is one of the most powerful Helloween songs, and my favorite off this album.

I Don't Wann Cry No More-Single('93)
I picked this up just because it was there. The title track is one of my least favorite off Chameleon, and they even cut out half the solo. All the songs on Chameleon seem like they should B-sides themselves, so I had no idea what to expect from these. The second track "Red Socks and the Smell of Trees" is a ten minute instrumental, basically a blues jam. They don't do a bad job for a bunch of Germans, but it does get a little boring at times. The third song is a Markus-written piece (always interesting) and basically a silly rock and roll song.

Master of the Rings('94)
In another major lineup change, singer Michael Kiske is gone, and replaced by Andi Deris. But much more than the lineup was changed by this album. Helloween was apparently unsatisfied by the direction they'd taken over their last two albums, and decided to return to a style that resembled the Keepers albums. Even the title, and the story printed in the cover of the liner notes, tries to make this a Keeper of the Seven Keys Part III. Lyrically, that is just a big joke, and musically, it is closer to the Keepers, but still quite different. This album is definitely metal, as they will tell you in the final song, "Still We Go." But it has a very different production than previous Helloween albums. It has a slick, glossy feel to it, with very prominent rhythm. Deris is nothing compared to Kiske, but he does have a unique style, and he can write some decent songs. About a year after it was released overseas, a U.S. edition came out, with an additional CD containing the B-sides of all the singles. Definitely get this version, it's the one time us Americans get a better deal than Europe or Japan.

Perfect Gentleman Single('94)
I got this single for the instrumental "Grapowski's Malmsuite 2000 in D Doll." Named for Yngwie Malmsteen, it is an excellent composition, with some great guitaring and cool piano parts. Also included are a Thin Lizzy cover, "Cold Sweat," and Markus-written "Silicon Dreams," which is not about computers, but rather, plastic surgery. Both of these are pretty decent songs too.

The Time of the Oath('96)
The boys continued right in their Master of the Rings style for this new album. It might be even a little faster and heavier. Also, wheras Master only had one good dual lead, on "Where the Rain Grows," this album has one nearly everywhere you look. As most people will tell you, it's got nine fast or heavy songs, two ballads, and one silly rock song. And I really like one of the ballads and the rock song, so it's a damn fine CD.

Individual by Bad Religion

individuals run for cover,
for the multitudes of thoughtless clones have reached a critical mass,
individuals hide in fear, under cover,
sheltered by the wafer thin veil of intelligence

individuals, nowhere to be seen

urbana is oozing like a bloated carcass,
with maggots cooking in the desert heat,
oozing, with progeny writhing and desperate
for input from someone more determined

congregating in invisible circles,
half apart and half apart,
all too aware of the insignificance,
pushing on with soul and heart

individuals don't pray for forgiveness,
when pinned up against the wall under siege of persecution,
individuals command exception,
and accept dichotomy,
maybe you can't choose anymore

procreation without gain or purpose,
languid wills and torped minds,
catapulted ever faster by the arrow of time

She-wolf by Megadeth

The mother of all that is evil
Her lips are poisonous venom
Wicked temptress knows how to please
The priestess roars,"Get down on your knees"

The rite of the praying mantis
Kiss the bones of the enchantress
Spellbound searching through the night
A howling man surrenders the fight

One look in her lusting eyes
Savage fear in you will rise
Teeth of terror sinking in
The bite of the she-wolf

My desires of flesh obey me
The lioness will enslave me
Another heart beat than my own
The sound of claws on cobblestone, I'm stoned

Train Of Consequences by Megadeth

I'm doing you a favor
As I'm taking all your money
I guess I should feel sorry
But I don't even trust me
There's bad news creeping up
And you feel a sudden chill
How do you do? My name is trouble
I'm coming in for the kill...
And you know I will

Set the ball A-Rollin
I'll be clicking off the miles
On the train of consequences
My boxcar life O' style
My thinking is derailed
I'm tied up to the tracks
The train of consequences
There ain't no turning back

No horse ever ran as fast
As the money that you bet
I'm blowing on my cards
And I play them to my chest
Life's fabric is corrupt
Shot through with corroded thread
As for me I hocked my brains
Packed my bags and headed west

Until The Day I Die by Story of The Year

Until the day I die
I'll spill my heart for you, for you
Until the day I die
I'll spill my heart for you

As years go by
I race the clock with you
But if you died right now
You know that I'd die to
I'd die too

You remind me of the times
When I knew who I was (I was)
But still the second hand will catch us
Like it always does

We'll make the same mistakes
I'll take the fall for you
I hope you need this now
Cause I know I still do

Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you
Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you

Should I bite my tongue?
Until blood soaks my shirt
We'll never fall apart
Tell me why this hurts so much
My hands are at your throat
And I think I hate you
But still we'll say, "remember when"
Just like we always do
Just like we always do

Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you
Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you

Yeah I'd spill my heart!!!
Yeah I'd spill my heart for you!!!

My hands are at your throat
And I think I hate you
We made the same mistakes
Mistakes like friends do

My hands are at your throat
And I think I hate you
We made the same mistakes
Made the same mistakes

Until the day I die
I'll spill my heart for you, for you

Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you, for you
Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you
Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
Until the day I die!!!

Story of The Year

Band yang berasal dari St.Louis, diperkuat Dan Marsala (vokal), Ryan Philips (gitar), Philip Sneed (gitar/vokal), Adam Russell (bass)dan Josh Wills (drum) sukses mengeluarkan album studio pertama, berjudul Page Avenue tahun 2003 dan mampu menjual album sebanyak 500ribu kopi di amrik. Band indie yang satu ini sebenarnya pernah merilis EP indienya: Three Days Broken (1998), Truth of Separation (1999) dan Story of the Year (2002)

AFI (band)

AFI is a rock band which was formed in 1991 in Ukiah, California, United States. AFI stands for A Fire Inside. While still in high school in Ukiah, California, Davey Havok (vocals), Mark Stopholese (guitar) and Vic Chalker (bass) formed an outfit called AFI in 1991. At the time, the band did not know how to play any instruments. Stopholese suggested his friend Adam Carson, who had a drum kit, join the band. Stopholese learned guitar and Chalker learned bass, but Chalker was soon replaced by Geoff Kresge and AFI made their first EP in recording Dork (1991) with the now defunct Loose Change, which included future AFI guitarist Jade Puget.

Between 1993 and 1995 they released several vinyl EPs (Behind the Times; Eddie Picnic's All Wet; This Is Berkeley, Not West Bay; AFI/Heckle; Bombing the Bay; Fly in the Ointment;) independently. Their first full-length, Answer That and Stay Fashionable was released in 1995. In 1996, the band released their second album, Very Proud of Ya, on Nitro Records. The songs "Cruise Control" and "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing" from Very Proud of Ya were used in the 1996 independent film Mary Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore, which was first screened in 1997 and also featured Havok in a small role.

AFI record Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes (1997) and was invited to become the full-time bassist. Future AFI guitarist Jade Puget also provided background vocals on Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes, making it the first album to feature all four current members of the band.

In 2002, AFI left Nitro Records and released Sing the Sorrow (2003) on DreamWorks Records. The songs Girl's Not Grey, The Leaving Song Pt. II, and Silver and Cold had some Billboard chart success and exposed the band to even larger audiences. They were nominated in the MTV Video Music Awards 2003 in the MTV2 award category for the video "Girl's Not Grey", which came to be the first VMA they won.

June 2006, their newest album, Decemberunderground, was released on Interscope Records. Reviewers have noted an even progression in sound for AFI in this album, featuring ColdPop and New Wave[5] elements. The album's first single "Miss Murder" reached #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Charts.

In the 28 years since its inception, Bad Religion has had numerous lineup changes, and Graffin has been the only constant member.

To date, Bad Religion has released fourteen studio albums, two EPs, three compilation albums, one live recording, and two DVDs. Their 1988 album Suffer has been regarded by some critics as one of the most important hardcore punk albums of all time,[1] although it was not charted in Billboard. Bad Religion rose to fame with their 1994 major-label release Stranger Than Fiction, which produced their well-known hit singles "21st Century (Digital Boy)" and "Infected". Following Gurewitz's departure in 1994, Bad Religion declined in popularity and poor record sales continued until the release of The New America in 2000. Gurewitz returned to the fold in 2001, making Bad Religion a six-piece band, and contributed to their three most recent albums.

They are particularly known for their sophisticated use of style, metaphor, vocabulary, imagery, and vocal harmonies (the oozin' aahs), whether reflective on matters of personal feelings or of personal or social responsibility.

Bad Religion was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1980 by high school students Greg Graffin (vocals, keyboards), Jay Bentley (bass), Jay Ziskrout (drums), and Brett Gurewitz, also known as "Mr. Brett" (guitar). The band's major influences stemmed from earlier punk acts such as The Ramones, The Adolescents, Black Flag, The Germs, and The Sex Pistols. Outside of the punk scene, their influences ranged from Elvis Costello, The Jam, and Nick Lowe to authors like Jack Kerouac.[2] Greg Graffin called his influences "pop sounding rock tunes that were not necessarily commercial."[3]

In 1981, the band released their eponymous debut EP on the newly-formed label, Epitaph Records, which was and continues to be managed and owned by Gurewitz. 1982 saw the release of their first full-length album, How Could Hell Be Any Worse?, gaining the band a sizable following.

In 1983, the band released Into the Unknown, a keyboard-driven progressive rock album that was enormously unpopular with the band's core fanbase. It is now officially out of print, after almost all of the 10,000 copies were surreptitiously sold out of the warehouse they were being stored in by Suzy Shaw, an ex-girlfriend of Gurewitz.

In 1984, Greg Hetson of Circle Jerks fame, who had played the guitar solo for "Part III" on How Could Hell Be Any Worse?, teamed up with Graffin on the song "Running Fast" for the soundtrack of the film Desperate Teenage Lovedolls.

The reunited band released Suffer in 1988, cementing their comeback in the punk community. Not only is this album often cited as one of their very best by fans, but it is credited with "saving" the Southern California punk rock scene by fans and Bad Religion's contemporaries alike.[5]

No Control (1989) and Against the Grain (1990) further increased the band's popularity, followed by Generator (1992). Before recording sessions for Generator commenced, drummer Pete Finestone left Bad Religion in 1991 to focus on his other band, The Fishermen, which had signed with a major label, and Bobby Schayer joined the band as his replacement.

Also during 1991, Bad Religion released a compilation album, 80-85, a repackaging of their debut album, How Could Hell Be Any Worse?, their two EPs, Bad Religion and Back to the Known and the band's three track contributions to the Public Service EP. This compilation did not include Into the Unknown. 80-85 is now out of print and has been replaced by the 2004 re-issued version of How Could Hell Be Any Worse? with the same track listings.

The majority of Bad Religion's lyrics are written by either Greg Graffin or Brett Gurewitz. Only on rare occasions will they co-write a song. Other band members, such as Jay Bentley, also contribute songs, but these constitute only a small percentage of the Bad Religion catalog.

Brett Gurewitz acknowledges attempting to emulate The Germs singer Darby Crash early on in Bad Religion's lyrical style. "He wrote some intelligent stuff, and didn't shy away from the vocabulary, which I thought was cool."[19] In addition to their use of unusually sophisticated vocabulary for a punk band, Bad Religion is also known for their frequent use of vocal harmonies, which they refer to in their album liner notes as the "oozin aahs". They took their cues from The Adolescents, in the way that they used three-part harmonies. Bassist Jay Bentley says, "Seeing The Adolescents live, it was so brilliant. So, in a way, the Adolescents influenced us into saying we can do it too, because look, they're doing it.

Sum 41

Sum 41 is a Canadian rock band from Ajax, Ontario. The current members are Deryck Whibley (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Cone McCaslin (bass guitar, backing vocals), Steve Jocz (drum kit drums, and percussion, backing vocals). The band's "classic" line-up is the same except with Dave Baksh on lead guitar and backing vocals.

Since signing an international record deal with Island Records in 1999, the band has released five studio albums, one live album (under two different titles), two live DVDs, more than fifteen singles, and sold over 10 million albums worldwide.[citation needed] It is reported that the band performed more than 300 times in a single year which is why they have become famous for their long and global tours, often lasting for more than a year.

The members of Sum 41 started out in rival bands in high school. They joke that they met while attending a Hole concert 41 days into the summer of 1996. According to the website Supernova, the band was originally a NOFX cover band and named Kaspir, and changed their name to Sum 41 for a Supernova show on September 28, 1996. The website also states that they were scouted by Greig Nori of Treble Charger at a Supernova show at the Opera House in Toronto on February 24, 1996. The current bassist, Cone, joined the band in 1999, after the band went through several other bassists. Cone claims the reason they were signed was that he had joined their band. After that they spent some time recording demos, praying a record company would sign them. In 1998 the band recorded a demo tape on cassette which they sent to various record companies in the hope of getting a recording contract, which they entitled "Rock Out with Your Cock Out". These Demo Tape tapes are extremely rare and are the only recordings with the original bassist Twitch.

The band submitted the video footage along with their demo tapes to several record labels. Island Records, wanting to capitalize on the pop punk fad popularized by Green Day and blink-182, signed Sum 41 in early 2000. The band decided to stay with Aquarius Records in Canada, as they were "the first label to show an interest in us and they got us our first Warped tour dates, so we wanted to stay with them.

Sum 41 released the album "Half Hour of Power" on June 27, 2000. The first single released by the band was "Makes No Difference", which had two different videos. The first video was put together using the video clips (such as the band robbing a pizza place) sent to the record label and the second showed the band performing at a house party.

My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance is an American rock quintet that formed in 2001. The current members of the band are Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero, Ray Toro and Bob Bryar. Shortly after forming, the band signed to Eyeball Records and released their debut album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love in 2002. They signed with Reprise Records the next year and released their major label debut Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge in 2004. The album was a commercial success, selling over one million copies. The band followed this success with 2006's The Black Parade, featuring their hit singles, "Welcome to the Black Parade", "Famous Last Words", "I Don't Love You", and "Teenagers". The band also recently filmed a live DVD in Mexico City, which is due for release in June 24 2008

Albums
* 2002: I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
* 2004: Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
* 2006: The Black Parade

In 2003, the band signed a deal with Reprise Records. Following a tour with Avenged Sevenfold, the band began work on their second album, entitled Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. Released in 2004, the album went platinum within a year. The band released three singles from the album: "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)", "Helena" and "The Ghost of You".

My Chemical Romance's music has been described by the media as "pop punk", "alternative rock", "post-hardcore", emo, and "punk revival". The band themselves described their music as simply "rock" or "violent, dangerous pop" on their official website, as well as rejecting the term "emo" to describe their style. Although a source quotes frontman Gerard Way stating that they are "What-else-ya-got-emo", Way has recently stated in an interview that they were never emo, as he says emo is "a pile of shit."

My Chemical Romance cite their main influences as Queen, Thursday, Iron Maiden, The Misfits, Morrissey/The Smiths and the Beastie Boys. Gerard Way has said, "We love bands like Queen, where it's huge and majestic, but also bands like Black Flag and the Misfits, who would go absolutely crazy." Way has also said that his band patterns their career after that of The Smashing Pumpkins, another band they admire. Geoff Rickly, the lead singer of Thursday, has compared My Chemical Romance to Ink & Dagger. Growing up, they were also very influenced by horror films and comic books, and therefore their music, lyrics, and image all have overt elements of fantasy, storytelling, horror, and theatricality.

Avenged Sevenfold

Avenged Sevenfold is an American hard rock/heavy metal band from Huntington Beach, California.
The band was formed in 1999. Avenged Sevenfold's first album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, was recorded when the band members were eighteen years old. It was originally released on their first label, Good Life Recordings. After lead guitarist Synyster Gates joined the band, the introductory track "To End The Rapture" was re-recorded with Gates playing, and the album was re-released on Hopeless Records. Their follow-up album, entitled Waking the Fallen, was also released on Hopeless Records and was awarded a positive rating in Rolling Stone magazine. Shortly after its release, Avenged Sevenfold were signed to Warner Bros. Records.

City of Evil, the third album which was released on 7 June 2005, strayed from metalcore, and M. Shadows chose to abandon the screaming from the first two albums. Although Shadows acknowledges throat and vocal cord damage, and the following surgery to help correct the issues, he says that the change in vocal style was not a result. In their new DVD "All Excess", Mudrock, producer of Avenged's second and third albums, said prior to Waking the Fallen, Shadows had stated that he wanted a CD with half-screaming, then one with no screaming, which was achieved in City of Evil. Shadows maintains that he's able to scream even better than before since the surgery and training with vocal coach Ron Anderson, who worked with various artists, from Axl Rose, to Kylie Minogue, and Chris Cornell.

The self titled album was released out on October 30, 2007 to early success, debuting at #4 on the Billboard 200 with approximately 94,000 copies sold.[3] Two singles, "Critical Acclaim" and "Almost Easy" along with its music video, were released prior to the album. An animated video was made for "A Little Piece of Heaven" and was going to be included on the MVI, but due to the song's subject matter (i.e. necrophilia), Warner Brothers released it to registered MVI users over the age of 18 in December of 2007. The third single, "Afterlife" and its video was released in January 2008. Avenged Sevenfold has confirmed that their fourth single is the country rock style song "Dear God".

They are currently headlining the Taste of Chaos tour with Atreyu, Bullet for My Valentine, Blessthefall and Idiot Pilot. On the tour, they are recording a live DVD, entitled Road to Realization, which will also include the rest of their unreleased studio songs from the most recent album.

Slipknot

Slipknot is an American metal band from Des Moines, Iowa. The current membership includes: Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Chris Fehn, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Shawn Crahan, Mick Thomson, and Corey Taylor.

Slipknot uses a down-tuned guitar set-up (lead, rhythm, and bass guitars), two percussionists in addition to the primary drummer, and electronics (samplers and turntables). The band's sound has been described as "a threshing machine devouring a military drum corps." The band incorporates diverse vocal styles, typically involving shouted vocals, melodic singing and even rapping while the lyrics generally follow an aggressive tone. The band's musical influences include groove metal, extreme metal, industrial metal, and hip hop.

Slipknot's origins date back to 1992, and the band officially formed in November 1995. Slipknot underwent several line-up changes after releasing their debut album, the self-produced Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. in 1996. This was followed by their first studio-produced effort Slipknot in 1999. The band has released two other studio albums, Iowa and Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses), and are expected to release a fourth album in September 2008

Debut Album
In late 1998, Slipknot entered the recording studio to work on their debut album. In the early new year, guitarist Brainard decided to leave the band due to personal reasons. His replacement was Jim Root leaving the band with the line-up they retain. Recording finished in early 1999, and the band attended the Ozzfest which began in March. On June 29, 1999, the band released their eponymous album Slipknot. Regarding the album, Rick Anderson of All Music Guide wrote "You thought Limp Bizkit was heavy? They're The Osmonds. Slipknot is something else entirely.

Slipknot included variations of previously released songs, including "(sic)", and "Slipknot". These versions were faster than their previous recordings and this shift in intensity was welcomed by old fans. In the same year, Slipknot released their first home video Welcome to Our Neighborhood (which was later released on DVD in 2003). In early 2000, Slipknot was certified platinum, a first for an album released by Roadrunner Records. In July 2001, Q named Slipknot as one of the "50 Heaviest Albums of All Time

Slipknot will be returning in 2008 with their fourth studio album. Preparation for the album has been noted to have started in October 2007, recording was due to begin in January 2008, but it was pushed back to February. They are aiming for a September release. For this release, the band has displayed interest in making it their heaviest album to date, such as the expansion of thrash metal riffing that was introduced on Vol. 3. However, they also want to make it their most experimental record, and will be including more acoustic guitars and melodic vocals, as well as introducing hi-hats and cymbals to the additional percussion. The album will be the band's first work with Dave Fortman as producer. Along with the album, the band will debut "evolved" masks and uniforms, which match the style of the new album. Slipknot will headline the first ever Rockstar Mayhem tour festival from July and August 2008. In addition, the band will be playing the Reading and Leeds Festival in August.

Albums
* Slipknot (Double Platinum, February 2005)

Megadeth's New Album Is Mustaine's "Last Real Shot At Achieving Anything Significant"

Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine has revealed to UK’s Guitar And Bass magazine that it is crucial for him to make an impact with latest release ‘United Abominations.’

Mustaine revealed, "This is my last real shot at achieving anything significant. If I don't do it this time, there probably will never be a next time. I'm 45, I have a nerve disorder in my back called stenosis (an overgrowth of bone closing off the hole in the vertebrae where the nerve emerges to go to the arm) and it's making it harder for me to play. Prior to the damage to my arm, I was already starting to feel weird things happening [and] my arm was starting to go numb. But I've got two black belts in karate. I'm a tough guy," he winked. "I can handle it."

On top of this frightening prospect, the axe legend claimed that a catalyst for the album’s rekindled anger was a chat with a fellow thrash icon.

"Frank Bello [bass] from Anthrax sat me down one night after a show and said, 'Dave, I really like Megadeth, but we really need you to get pissed off again. Megadeth is important music and the best stuff you ever wrote was when you were pissed off.’

"The thing is, as I said to Frank, I'm not an angry person anymore! But then I figured that there was a lot of things in the world to be angry about as well that had to be spoken out against. In my personal life, I stopped fighting and started to seek reconciliation where I could."

‘United Abominations’ is out on May 15 via Roadrunner Records.
